exploring the more-than-human worlds,
queer and spiritual ecology, rewilding the collective myths and rituals.
SOLASTALGIA
In an era of demystification and disillusionment, religions and spiritual practices are fading away worldwide. Especially central Europe witnesses the vanishing of burial customs, with churches and cemeteries becoming relics of grieving cultures and connected communities. Simultaneously, the earth faces a climax of environmental crises and mass extinctions. The neologism and framework of SOLASTALGIA, which explores the emotional distress, aspects of kinship and belonging in the face of species loss and landscape destruction, offers a space for environmental justice without excluding the emotional aspects of loss and stressing a focus on queer ecology and animistic and indigenous practices.
CADAVRE EXQUIS
CADAVRE EXQUIS emerges here as a framework, encompassing an exhibition at Kiezkapelle chapel and workshops on environmental justice and grief in the „befriedet“ St. Jacobi Cemetery inBerlin‘s Neukölln district.
CADAVRE EXQUIS focuses on interconnectedness and the quest to (re)establish rituals and myths as the foundation of a healing culture that transcends the division between humans and non-human realms. It aims to uncover the „dark“ ecologies and foster coexistence among beings, revitalizing interconnected existences. This quest seeks a new earthly liturgy that incorporates the emotional dimension of ecological grief and mourning.
Drawing inspiration from eco-feminist visions like Donna Haraway‘s „staying with the trouble,“ BrunoLatour‘s critique of anthropocentrism, and Joseph Campbell‘s approach to mythology,
CADAVRE EXQUIS acts like decaying matter – fertile.
